How long does a garment last?

Compression hose last a maximum of 6 months with proper care. Night time garments can last from 2 to 4 years depending on how you maintain them, as well as how your fluid levels are fluxuating in your affected limb. The outer jacket of your night time garment must be replaced every year.

Why do I need to wear a sleeve and glove on a flight?

The cabin pressure during flight in a plane is less than the atmospheric pressure while on the ground. The decreased pressure in the cabin can cause increased swelling of the limbs.

Will my insurance cover my garments?

Most private insurance companies do cover garments, however it will depend on your individual plan. If your plan does cover garments, your physician will need to write a RX order. With an RX order, you can receive reimbursement.

We have an insurance specialist on staff who will handle all communications with your insurance provider to ensure that you receive your insurance benefits.

Medicare and Medicaid do not cover these garments.

What is the difference between T.E.D's and graduated compression wear?

Anti-embolism stockings are designed specifically for bed-bound patients to help prevent blood from pooling in the leg veins. Graduated compression is medically designed for patients who are mobile. They work with a graduated effect and measured in millimeters of mercury.

Why do I need to wear graduated compression?

With lower extremity garments, the compression is greatest at the ankle and slowly decreases up the leg. With upper extremity garments, the compression is greatest at the wrist and decreases up the arm.

Can I wear my compression garments when swimming?

Yes, you can wear your compression garments during swimming and other water activities. After using it in chlorinated water, immediately rinse the garment out in fresh, clean water. It is also recommended that you do this after wearing them in salt water.

How do I know what length stocking I need?

Our compression garment fitters are certified and have received extensive training in compression garment measuring.

We have developed a fitting process that ensures that you will receive a proper fit. Our policy is to try and try again, until we can get you fitted in the right garment so that you can achieve the most mobility possible.

Who should wear compression garments?

Compression garments aren't just for people who have lymphedema or Deep Vein Thrombosis. They are especially helpful for pregnant women, people who travel frequently for work, marathon runners, or those who work on their feet many hours during the day.
